Spill Your Story

Issue No. 3 – Submissions are now closed.

Deadline: March 13, 2026

For Issue 03, we’re drawn to work that understands flavor as more than a metaphor. We want writing that carries heat, density, and residue. Send us your poems, stories, and hybrid pieces that are seasoned with tension, rich with voice, and brined with memory. It’s free to submit, always.

Mouthful of Salt accepts poetry, creative nonfiction, flash fiction, hybrid work, and visual art. We’re drawn to pieces that are beautifully messy, intimate, nontraditional, and hard to categorize—work that pushes boundaries and invites deep attention. Above all, we seek to uplift voices from marginalized communities.

Please carefully read our submission guidelines, as any submission that does not meet the requirements will not be considered for publication.

We only accept original manuscripts that have not been previously published, in whole or in part.

Submission Options

You can submit your work via Duosuma free of charge or by email at submissions.mouthfulofsalt@gmail.com. Tips are welcome and go directly toward platform upkeep and, we hope, eventual compensation for our team and contributors.

For writers seeking editorial insight, we offer two optional feedback tiers:

  • $15 Feedback Tier: Includes a 250–300 word editorial response with light edits.
  • $25 Expedited Feedback Tier: Includes an expedited response (within 7 days) with a more in-depth critique, heavier line edits, and revision suggestions.

Please note: Feedback tiers do not guarantee publication.

For more details, please visit our Duosuma page.

What We Look For

We are drawn to writing that does not fit neatly into genre or expectations. We want the jagged, the intimate, the unfiltered truths that live in the body and memory. Our editors are especially interested in work that explores relationships in their most layered forms: between lovers, cultures, identities, ancestors, and the self.

Send us writing that wrestles with mental health, longing, grief, joy, survival, and transformation. We are less interested in tidy resolutions and more interested in work that risks honesty. If your piece lingers, if it leaves something behind, we want to read it.

With every submission include a brief cover letter and a third-person bio (50 words or less).
